Memorial Day Ceremony
The Dennis J. Becker American Legion Post 205 conducted its second Memorial Day Ceremony on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29, 2017. Befitting the occasion, it was a solemn event, not a celebratory event like a parade. It was held in the open area outside the Bluffton Police Department Headquarters on Buckwalter Parkway. The center of focus was the flagpole where the American Flag was raised from half-staff to full-staff at noon. We have dedicated an entire web page to this important annual event.
The American Legion’s Boys State program is a unique way for young men to learn about the American system of government and politics by participating in a mock governmental system. We call it a “Laboratory of Government” because during the week each young man will have the opportunity to run for and be elected to mock offices ranging from city level (e.g. city council, mayor) to state constitutional offices (e.g. lieutenant governor and governor). Boys State for 2017 will be held at Anderson University June 11 to 17. Registration began on March 1. Go to our Boys State page for more details.
Fisher House Donation
On April 26, 2017 Commander Courtney Peeples, Second Vice Commander David Leite, Adjutant Mike Miranda, and Past Commander Bob Sterling visited the Fisher House construction site and presented a check for $750 to Kent Hutchinson, Co-chairman and Treasurer of the Fisher House Foundation. The $750 is one-fourth of the profit from the 2016 golf tournament as voted on by the membership. More information and pictures can be viewed at our Fisher House web page.
