Bluffton High School has an Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) battalion composed of four companies, each of which has two or three platoons. The JROTC Senior Instructor is Lieutenant Colonel John Carothers, U. S. Army, Retired. He is assisted by Sergeant First Class David Wettrich, U. S. Army, Retired.
American Legion Post 205 sponsors a platoon of these JROTC cadets. The cadets are made available to help with ceremonies and functions, such as flag retirement ceremonies and fund raising events.
The platoon student leadership changes each year as seniors graduate, so we look forward to working with different young leaders each year.
Also, each year, in accordance with an American Legion long-standing custom, our post recognizes academic and military achievement with certificates and medals. These awards are presented at the annual JROTC awards ceremony in late Spring. 2015 award winners are shown below.
Bluffton American Legion Post 205 is collecting worn, torn and faded American Flags to be disposed of properly at retirement ceremonies conducted by the JROTC at Bluffton High School. The last flag retirement ceremony was held on Friday, April 1, 2016. The next flag retirement ceremony will be announced.
Flags can be dropped off from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. any day at the following Bluffton Township Fire District stations:
