Vietnam War Commemoration

In accordance with Public Law 110-181 SEC 598 the 2008 National Defense Authorization Act authorized the Secretary of Defense to conduct a program to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War and "in conducting the commemorative program, the Secretary shall coordinate, support, and facilitate other programs and activities of the Federal Government, State and local governments, and other persons and organizations in commemoration of the Vietnam War." The program will span the period from Memorial Day 2015 to Veterans Day 2025. Click here to see more details.

Beaufort National Cemetery Expansion
Without any action, the Beaufort National Cemetery will have to turn away in-ground internments by the early 2030s. In 2010 the Veterans Cemetery Committee of Beaufort (VCCOB II) was formed to negotiate the purchase of adjacent private property. Currently, limited funds are available and a commercial enterprise has expressed interest in the property. The attached letter and flyer discuss this effort.
Golf Club Donations
The local Elks Club had a program to donate used golf clubs to local golf programs. Because of the closing of the local Elks Club, Post 205 has now adopted this program. Donated golf clubs will be donated to the Legends Golf Course at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot at Parris Island for use in their junior golf, handicapped golf, and other programs to benefit those in need. Our Service Officer, Art Ranta, 843-757-7918, rantastamps@gmail.com, is running this program. Call Art if you have golf clubs you want to donate to this worthy cause.

Service-connected Disability
There is a new website that provides comprehensive information about military and VA disability benefits.  Military and VA regulations are written in bureaucratic language that is difficult for a layman to understand.  The Beaufort County Veterans Affairs Office, 843-255-6880, cwedler@bcgov.net, and this new website, Military Disability Made Easy, are your best sources for your military disability questions and needs.
